Due to the nature of our business there are a variety of
names used to describe a portable building. Here we try to
clarify some of the terms used a portable building:
- Portakabin is the registered trade mark of the York based
manufacturer. We carry a large stock of genuine Portakabin
buildings.
- The term portacabin is commonly used by those outside the
industry (usually customers) to describe all types of portable
accommodation. Such use might under certain circumstances
infringe Portakabin's registered trade mark.
- Pre-fabricated building is generally used to describe
a building manufactured under factory conditions prior to
installation.
- Modular building is a single or multi-storey building
made up of individual modules which, after manufacture or
refurbishment, are transported to site and linked together
to form a larger area. Modular buildings can be fitted out
internally to suit any requirement. We always stock a large
range of modular buildings.
- Cabin is a term generally used for single units which
can be used for a variety of applications and can be linked
and double stacked if required.
- A jackleg unit is another description for cabins. Our
range of cabins is extensive for either standard construction
or anti-vandal units.
- Mobile units are wheeled units which can be easily moved
on site as required.
- Anti-vandal units are robust steel units designed to
deter vandalism or theft. They can include storage units
as well as offices or indeed any other application.
However you want to describe it we will either have it or
can get it for you!
We can offer our stock as sale or hire and, of course, we
will buy quality accommodation which is surplus to your requirements.


The sale of portable buildings is often required for long
term or semi-permanent projects. A building is selected from
our extensive stock or acquired specifically for our clients
requirements.


Our clients often prefer to hire a portable building from us when the requirement is short term. Hiring a portable building also has other advantages over sale for longer term projects:
- Large modular buildings can be construed, at the time
of purchase, as assets to the owner. However at the end
of a contract buildings are often a liability to clients
when they want to sell. This is due to excessive costs to
remove the building which must be taken into account by
the purchaser. Also, it is often the case that buildings
are not correctly maintained when purchased which increases
difficulty in reselling.
- The hire a portable building does not involve the outlay of
precious capital
- Costs are fixed for the agreed contract term
- Buildings can be off-hired when required to free up space
